#RPGaDay2025 - 12 Path
The word path instantly brings to mind my unfinished “Walkabout” project. It’s all about networks and pathways, this applies in the rules, in the setting, and in the underlying concepts of the game.
It begins with a lifepath method of character generation. Characters start at a place outside their player’s control, but as they grow up, choices are offered and gradually the player has the chance to either shift their character into the type of archetype they originally had in mind, embrace the destiny of the randomness in the world, of walk a middle path between these extremes.
That is designed to carry through into the rest of the game. It’s all about the paths taken, and the paths not taken… where each of these options has an impact on the short term situation and the long term ramifications of the narrative. Every story has a range of potential paths, every story is a Journey along the paths chosen.
Some paths have endings, some don’t. Some games are finite, some are infinite.
