Variant RPGaDay - 25, 26, and 27

Another game that has a lot of fond memories for me, and there were dozens of potential options I could think of for the various combinations of prompts, but I've generally gone with some stereotypical responses.

I'm intrigued by the changes to the lore in the latest version of Vampire the Masquerade, and certain elements of the new system, but overall hate a lot of the "updates". Here's my batch of NPCs.

Batch 9 (VtM)

Instinct – Familiarity – Loving and Giving (Salubri)

Bianca worked for many years in an animal shelter, where she helped out as a veterinary assistant. This care for animals attracted the attention of a Salubri who was looking for a child to pass the secrets of the old ways to. Bianca had the powers and curse of vampirism explained to her and she saw it as an opportuity to look after humans in much the same way that she had been looking after animals.

(Besides being a big fan of the Salubri, to the point that I have their antitribu symbol as a tattoo, it just works best for the ideas of "familiarity" due to their high humanity, and the "loving and giving" works well with their healing abilities and self-sacrificial nature)

"Bianca Talbot"

Goal: Bianca has only recently been embraced, and wants to learn more about the nature of vampirism. She believes that there may be more to it than her sire suggested...

Obstacle: ...however, in true Salubri fashion, her sire requested that she diablerise him to free his soul for ascension to higher planes. She has yet to find another vampire she can trust.

Strength: Bianca has found a few vampires to share a home with, but she hasn't revealed her clan to them. Her connection with animals has proven useful, and most believe she may be a young gangrel or simply a caitiff. The secret of her true powers is something she keeps up her sleeve for the moment.

Weakness: If the true nature of her clan was discovered, she would be instantly hunted by assorted local groups including the Tremere and other who would view her diablerie with contempt. She has been lucky enough to keep a low profile so far.

Instinct – Regret – Works Hard (Nosferatu)

Harry "Sewer Rat" Phillips worked as a maintenance worker in the local water department, checking out stormwater and sewer tunnels beneath the city. It wasn't a clean job, and certainly wasn't easy, but he enjoyed it until he found out that the legends of monsters beneath the streets were true. When he became one, life took a turn for the worse...but he's gradually getting used to it.

"Sewer Rat"

Goal: He knew he could never go back to his mortal family when he became a monster, so now "Sewer Rat" does everything he can to look after his former wife and kids from a distance. His contacts in the supernatural underworld have helped.

Obstacle: His horrific visage means he can't see his family, and keep his distance from them.

Strength: Between his ability to communicate with animals and his superhuman strength, "Sewer Rat" has proven very useful to the local vampire community.

Weakness: The more he communicates with animals and identifies with them, the less his humanity is starting to mean to him...so far, his family and newfound friendship with Bianca are the two things keeping him civilised.

Instinct – Hunger – Blessed (Lasombra)

Erica Hernandez has been undead for almost two centuries. She remembers the Sabbat, and being a pack priest in it. When the week of nightmares came and went, when the Sabbat started falling to internal politics, and when the sect leadership headed off to fight the horrors of the shadows, Erica stayed behind. She found a pair of strays, Bianca and "Sewer Rat", and hid among some anarchs. As an older vampire, she feels the hunger building in her, and her age is starting to make it harder to maintain her humanity.

Goal: Erica is playing a long game, she just wants to survive and rebuild the type of influence she once had in the Sabbat. She knows that it will be a struggle to regain her control over the beast, but has learned the truth about Bianca as a Salubri, and "Sewer Rat"s family, she hopes that their anchors can help serve as hers.

Obstacle: The hunger beckons her somewhere, she doesn't know where and doesn't want to. None know her true age, and only a few know her true clan. Hiding her identity while keeping alive is her biggest threat...she knows it's only a matter of time.

Strength: Erica has mastered control of the shadows and has been blessed with the ability to see entities in the darkness who linger on the edges of our reality. These spirit entities need things from the physical world and she can provide them, in return they offer favours and powers that few understand.

Weakness: Her beast grows, the web of shadows around her grows, her reflection has faded to nothing, ad if anyone notices this, her charade will be over.
