Mechanisms that a player can use to determine things in the game with less of a break out of character. But also tools that might play with probabilities in ways that existing games don't...then looking at what influence this might have on a game.

Jeff, I like the idea of using the domino for "healthy" and "wounded", it's a quick visual representation using the tool at hand. That's the kind of thing I'm looking for.

...as for Pai-Gow, so much potential especially for grand scale strategy.Vulpinoidhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04511600075328621953noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2482451413021840738.post-69405074567261387742010-06-02T02:12:46.657+10:002010-06-02T02:12:46.657+10:00Take a look at how Pai-Gow works. The notion of choosing how to make two hands out of four dominoes in order to beat both of the opponent's hands has some potential.Wordmanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10238489411931360787noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2482451413021840738.post-76843990607572607782010-06-01T15:36:58.072+10:002010-06-01T15:36:58.072+10:00That's really interesting with the dominoes. I don't have any thoughts just now to expand on your 10 suggested ideas, but I find using both sides and the strategic use from a limited pool the most interesting concepts right now.

I lied, here's a thought: use dominoes as stats, one side is your 'healthy' use of the trait, the other the 'wounded' use. By default the higher would be healthy, but maybe your character finds his willpower as he's injured and that's higher. Or whatever.

Also, finally, I should check out your post about counters in a bag. I thought about doing something like that to capture a 'rune' feel for the game I'm working on now, but in the end I a) didn't understand the probability well enough, and b) decided that dice could do what I was going for as well if not better. But I still find the concept intriguing, especially since the probability changes with every draw.Jeff Russellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14017877412359840010noreply@blogger.com
