Given that it's been in development for that long, and yet the site (http://www.oldschoolhack.net/) still considers it "Beta", I wasn't really sure whether to add it into my analysis of the year's innovations. It's available free. It takes the essence of OD&D, but uses very stripped down rules which bring in mechanics from D&D 4th and other sources. The entire game, including play aids, is 28 pages.
